Radiation: I did have radiation on both sides. The first few treatments were easy, then fatigue set in though I kept working full time. I did have some burning and headaches. Toward the end, the machine broke while I was on the table. I was burned and very sick, with nausea and excrutiating headaches. They were unable to do the last five treatments, but I got a lovely certificate that I had "graduated!" My white blood cell count has never recovered. Basically, I have no immune system. I wash my hands often!

Drug or Chemo Therapy: Chemo was recommended, but I declined as it would only increase my survival rate 4%. Because of what my precious mother-in-law went through, I just felt that for me, the side effects and risks did not outweigh the possible benefits.

Oh No (Misdiagnosed): I went for a routine mammogram right before Christmas. My doctor didn't want to ruin my holidays, so didn't tell me till Jan., but told his wife, who told her best friend, whose husband was on my school's board where I was Head of School--so my board knew before I did. Had biopsy and was scheduled for surgery. Got a call on Fri. to be at the hospital on Mon. to have my SPLEEN removed! I called my sister in Houston whose boss got me in with her surgeon. I went on that Monday morning. He looked at my xrays and said everything needed to be redone. I had cancer in both breasts. I'm alive today because I went to Houston.
