I have surgery scheduled on October 26 at UAB Birmingham Alabama with Dr Urist and Dr Vasconez. I will have the bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction using the latissimus at my back. i am looking forward for a swift recovery. I just finished packing my suitcase today for my hospital stay in UAB for 2-4 nights. Hope there are no complications during my hospital visit. My doctors initially advised me to have a lumpectomy on my left breast followed by 33 treatments of radiation. I was skeptical that radiation would not be a good idea for me. My final decision is to have a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction for symmetry, peace of mind and eliminating any more mammograms.
