Drug or Chemo Therapy (Chemotherapy): Diagnosed March 18, 2010. Immediately started treatment with the Hyper CVAD protocol. Mixed signals with chromosomes - started at JRMC in Pine Bluff, referred and transferred to UAMS in Little Rock for rounds 2 & 3. Referred by Dr. Mattox at UAMS due to possiblity of needing Bone Marrow transplant. Finished all 8 rounds (both part A & B) but took about 11 months due to various problems with infections, low blood counts, need for transfusions, etc. Finally started Maintenance phase of Hyper CVAD protocol April 2011. (this is 30 months of continued oral and IV/Port chemotherapy). Will finish maintenance October 2013. Still in remission.
I was able to get VERY good nausea meds prior to all Chemo which helped tremendously. I also take the oral nausea med at home as needed. LOTS of major side effects of chemo. It saved my life - but has left lingering issues. Have sever neuropathy in feet and significant pain (joint & bones) in both legs. Recently started having issues with tingling and numbness in hands. Doctors have decreased Vincristine dosage to help with this but so far no change.
