Oh No: I went to my primary physician for a 6 mo blood test (I take cholesterol medicine), and he discovered I was very anemic. After futher tests, I was referred to a local hematologist/oncologist who gave me the multiple myelome diagnosis.

I opted to go to MD Anderson in Houston, TX for a second opinion. They still follow me, and I go every 3 months. I am followed by a local oncologist.

Drug or Chemo Therapy (Other): I am currently taking a low dose of Revlimid, which is supposed to postpone the return of my disease.

I feel very good most of the time.

I have been on a similar journey for 10 years. I have used several drugs since my transplants, two. The newest drug an seeming most effective is Kypolos, which just came out in August. It has pushed me back into remission. Be sure and talk with your MD Anderson doctor about it.

Procedure or Surgery (Other): I was given a stem cell transplant (my own stem cells), after a strong chemo to kill my own bone marrow. I was in the hospital for about 2 weeks. After that I could not be around people (except my husband) for approximately 6 months until my immune response improved.

The stem cell procedure killed a lot of the myeloma cells, but my cancer did not go into remission.
