I'm a 55 year old Lupus patient with stage IV breast cancer, and yes cancer is usually more urgent than Lupus so her oncologist will probably take charge of her treatments but he will need to be in close contact with her rhumatologist! The good news is that if she does chemo that will suppress her immune system so her Lupus could go into remission from the chemo, I am saying that because mine did...every cloud does have a silver lining. I would stay away from Kaiser if she has a complicated case, which it sounds like she does. Kaiser can only handle basic medical treatments, they don't have the specialist or the newest machines to handle many cancers. When I was a Kaiser patient they only had one rhumatologist for all of Sunset! It was awful I could never see him, they kept sending me to my primary Kaiser doctor who was completely useless with my Lupus! I left Kaiser, you should too! UCLA is great, so is Cedars, City of Hope. there are a lot of great cancer centers in Southern California. She needs a good rhumatologist (sorry still can't spell it )and a good oncologist who speak to each other because the Lupus is going to have an effect on how she tolerates the cancer treatments....that was my experience...please take care and message me on my wall if you have any questions, I have had Lupus for 30 years and cancer for over 3 and I am in LA. Good luck and god bless! xoxoxoxoxo

In the real world no one knows how long they will live especially in LA. You should both live one day at a time and enjoy the day for what it is. When you find the doctor or treatment center you will know. 3 years ago I was diagnosed with a Grade IV GBM tumor on my right frontal of my brain. I decided to go to Duke for my care, DR Freidman was my neuro Oncologist and we hit it off just fine. We decided that there is no real lasting cure for my Cancer just a holding treatment. I was tired all the time from chemo and radiation. But I got through it.
