Celebration (Every day is a celebration ): Cancer patients are given a tap on the shoulder and given an awakening of something we all take for granted. Each day is a blessing and every day is cause for celebration.

Other Care (counseling): My doctor strongly suggested that I visit with a social worker every 6 months after I was diagnosed. He was a strong believer in treating the whole person. I must admist, I thought that it was a little werid at the time, but was open to it. It was time well spent as one does go through emotional upsets after a cancer diagnosis. I don't regret those sessions at all.

Procedure or Surgery (Surgery): I had a radical nephrectomy performed on me dayus after my diagnosis. The tumor was on the outside of the kidney, sitting on top of it. Due to the location of the tumor, there was also exploratory surgery done to check to see if other organs were impacted.

Oh No (Diagnosed): I remember the moment the doctor told me I had a tumor that was malignant very clearly. I was sitting in a small room with my Mom when the doctor came in and very gently advised me. Time stood still for a moment. I then realized I had to listen and tried my best to do so as the doctor explained how he wanted to proceed. I looked over at my Mom who had tears falling down her face. I remember handing her a tissue as I tried to continue to listen to the doctor. I knew enough to realize I was in shock and asked the doctor for his phone number. I remember telling him we had to go home and tell my Dad and the rest of my family, and I could we speak to him later if there was a need.I told him my dad may want to speak to him and I wasn't certain I was absorbing all the information right then. He was very kind and provided the number. As Mom drove us home, she was very supportive as she talked about how we were going to get through this together. My mother was diagnosed with cancer some years before and survived, so her words meant the world to me as my mom and as a survivor. When we got to my parents house, we told my father, who was very very concerned. I remember I then went out in their back yard and walked around the trees and looked up to the heavens. It was a calm day, I asked God to give me the strength to get through whatever lay ahead of me and thanked him for all my blessings. I felt a sense of peace come over me, I then went back into the house and called my siblings. The journey began.........
