To develop what? I don't know what you are asking? Are you asking how long before stage 1 would become stage 2 without treatment?

Colon cancer generally develops from polyps that form in the colon. Everyone over 50 should be having a colonoscopy or at least a sigmoidoscopy to see if there are any polyps present in the colon. If there are, the polyps can be removed before it becomes cancerous. Everyone's body takes different times to develop into cancer so there is no blanket answer for a time frame.

I have the same question about my breast cancer and early on, I asked my oncologist the same thing. All I know for sure is that at my mammogram two years before my diagnosis, I had no signs of a tumor. Two years later, I had a 2.5 cm malignant tumor excised. So from nothing to Stage 2 in two years - my onc said the tumor could have been growing for years or months. In other words, there is no way to know and no real answer. I feel that if I only knew when I got this disease, I could figure out WHY I got this disease. I could look back and say "It must have been caused by this stress in my life, or by doing this or not doing that." If I could figure out why, then I could make sure it never happened again. But the truth is, we don't cause cancer and there is probably nothing we can do to prevent it. It's a hard truth to accept.
