Loss (Body part/function): I lost the ability to walk into the classroom and sit on the floor with students and read to them. I missed being able to jump rope and chase balls with students at recess. There were so many reminders of the things that I could no longer do along with the fatigue, that I gave up my career as an educator. This was a huge loss mentally (at the time), but I have adjusted mentally and physically to an early retirement.

Celebration (Breakthrough): I celebrated each day that I was able to have limb recovery instead of amputation. I celebrated getting out of the wheel chair, leaving the walker behind, then the crutches and finally loaning my cane to another cancer survivor to use.

Procedure or Surgery (Surgery): It is difficult to rate this as for me I would say that everything was minimal at the time, because I was fighting so hard to not be sick and to recover quickly. But, as I look back I see just how difficult the recovery was and what affects it did have on my children, parents and friends.
