Celebration (5-month check-up): I am 5-months post surgery, had scans, bloodwork and met with my doctor, I am cancer free! No signs of additional cancer and my kidney is functioning normal! Great news!

Procedure or Surgery (Surgery): I had a partial left nephrectomy in April of this year. Diagnosis T1bNXMX. The procedure was explained well and went as planned. I was released from the hospital on the 5th day. I had minimal pain as I had a epidural prior to surgery. Had nausea issues from the epedural until they changed meds. The biggest issue for me was to get back to eating, everything upset my stomach. Upon getting home, the big thing for me was to take it easy. I didn't have someone to stay with me after the first day home, so dad and I had to wing it. He tried to help as much as he could and friend brought us meals so we didn't have to worry about cooking that first week. I acutally went back to work part-time after 5-weeks.

Oh No (Diagnosed): How does one handle the words "You have Cancer?" It was a sureal experience for me, somehow I new I had cancer, I was calm and tried to abosorb as much as I could. The big Oh No for me was telling my dad. As my dad's caregiver, I couldn't help but wonder how this was going to work, and telling my dad I had cancer was tough. We lost my mom to cancer 7-years ago and it was a horrible battle that left us scared. I knew my dad was not going to take it well.
