    Hilary,

Thank you for your offer. We saw Dr. Kim at Mayo the first of February, and just got back from seeing Dr. Wolff at M D Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. My wife was taking Gemzar and Tarceva (5 weekly treatments), but we took last week off and will switch to Flofirinox next Tuesday. We are very concerned about the side effects of Flofirinox because it depletes the white blood count to make you very, very susceptible to any and all infections, including blood infections that can be fatal. However, the literature suggests that the median survival increases from 6.6 months to 11.1 months. Unfortunately, her cancer in inoperable and, as you know, incurable.

We have a new granddaughter just waiting to be born any day now, and Jan refuses to let anything keep her from that child ... but the Flofirinox may do just that.

I don't know if the rules of this group allow direct telephone contact, but I really would like to chat with you sometime. We are "unavailable" until next Wednesday morning, but if it is permissible, I'd appreciate talking with you anytime after that and will send my numbers if you say it is OK.

And just so you know that I am not a wierdo posing as someone else on the internet, I am a 68-year old Viet Nam vet rated at 100% totally and permanently disabled by the VA, I have three grown children and three, soon to be four, grandchildren and I am the "neighborhood grandfather" to about a dozen or so kids ranging in age from 4 to 20. A life-long Baptist, I am also a 33rd degree Free Mason and a Shriner (drove a little red go-cart n the parades 20 years ago). A regular pillar of the community :-) I can send you more personal details if you are still uncomfortable about making direct contact.

      Hi Grampydaddy,

First I want to thank you for your service to our country. Second, we definitely do support people making friendships "offline." To protect everyone's privacy, you can make this request my clicking on the person's name (in this case, @hilary) and on her page you will see on the top where it says "Exchange Email." Click on that and follow the instructions.

Congrats on your new grand baby-to-be.

    Grampydaddy posted an update

My beloved and cherished bride of 42 years was diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer just before Christmas. It has metastaticsed (did I spell that right) into two golf ball size masses free-floating in her left pelvic area. She had 5 infusions of Gemzar and 24 days of Tarceva. They are now stopping that and starting Flofirinox infusions next week. She had very little side effects with er chemo so far, but I am dreading what awaits her in the way of side effects from the new treatments.

If anyone has had experience with Flofirinox , please contact me with details of the treatment and side effects.

Also, I am looking for a support group in the Orange Park, Florida area.

Finally, does anyone know how I can donate the 6 unused Tarceva pills to someone who can use them. At around $200 each, I just cannot flush them.

I am so sorry you must go through this. But it sounds like your wife has tremendous support in you. These are good questions and I suggest that you also post them in our Questions section. or the "Questions" link at the top of this page. When you post needs/questions using our question feature, we route your question to everyone in the network who might be able to help.

Regarding a support group, you can click on "Resources" up above and there may be some support groups listed there. Additionally, you can contact the American Cancer Society hotline at[phone number redacted] and they can tell you what is available. Another idea is to check in with the social worker or patient navigator where your wife is being treated.

Regarding the Tarceva pills, that ACS hotline nu,her might be able to help you out with ideas.

Please know that we are with you and will do anything we can to help support you.
