I have been on Anastrozole since 10/13 too many side effects. Being switched to Femara, not sure if it will b better.

Id_105 "My oncologist told me that one AI is not better than another..." mine told me the same thing but it looks like on this board that may not be true. I had been taking letrozole/femara and the pain was spectacular. She said go off of it for ten days and take claritin and vit. e and then try again. But after 3 days back on femara, the pain woke me up at 5:00am today. I already take percocet for the breast pain from the surgery/reduction/etc and I have hard arthritis and I go to a pain clinic. I know the value of taking the AI but if your life is just one great pain day after day, what kind of life is that? I can deal - sort of - with the hot flashes and the brain fog (hate that!) but I can't deal with that level of pain.

So much input on this...that we can trust. Love this site. It has been 6 months since I posted regarding SEs and vaginal dryness and then 1/2 pill above. Now I have lost so much cartilage in my knees. Possible this is my age (69) rather than side effect...but geeze....painful. I was in such great health before cancer...and until 2 months ago enjoyed walking my dog and my daughter's dog everyday...usually a couple miles. Curious if others have had loss of cartilage...???

Yes my knees and hips and ankles and feet are creaky when I have been sitting and have been told I have arthritis so that is likely something to do with cartilage loss. I had some of that before this whole adventure so it is hard to tell what would have been the normal progression and what is due to the AI (Femara). I also have progressed to full blown osteoporosis so 10 years on this (9 more for me!) does not sound promising. But my tumor was 95% estrogen sensitive so I guess it's helping? I do take extra vit D with calcium and magnesium, and supplements like Curcumin and melatonin. And a lot of walking, plus using a SAD light. Who knows if anything is helping though.
