I didn't have the problem, but my surgery was followed by chemo, radiation, chemo. So, I wasn't able to eat during my treatment, so that kept my body pretty well dehydrated. I don't know if drinking more liquids would flush your system.

I had a hysterectomy (regular, huge scar type) in December 2012. I am just now, 7 months later, starting to see some improvement in the swelling. I'd say a year is a more realistic amount of time. Surgery is a huge trauma to the body, as such the body takes time to heal and recover. But, if you feel your recovery isn't normal and something might be wrong, then listen to your body and contact a doctor. Good luck!

Glad you contacted your doctor and hope you heard back from her/him quickly. For some reason almost all of my issues have cropped up at night or on the week-ends too.

Hugs and let us know what's going on.

Hi Kathy. I'm glad to hear that the pain is easing and you're feeling better. Remember that this was major surgery so you can expect to have pain for about 6 weeks. Remember to listen to your body and get as much rest as you can. After a hysterectomy, you can develop adhesions that cause pain. I'm 5 years out from surgery and because of adhesions, I still have pain at times. Take care and hopefully the pain subsides and remember to give yourself time to heal.

I am 3 weeks post hysterectomy and also get sharp side lower pain now and again I was told that those ligaments they stitch everything to when uterus is removed is in that exact position so I always call but try not to worry like everyone says it can take 6 weeks to a year to feel right again

Procedure or Surgery (Robotic assisted laparoscopic radical hysterectomy): Much better than abdominal surgery but it is still major surgery. I am sore, tired, and swollen.
