I went through my battle with the same diagnosis...We are the same age and I want you to know that you have my support when and if you need it...

Side Effects (First Bite Syndrome, Severely dry throat, Jaw pain, Water coming through my nose): I was diagnosed less than a month from my fiftieth birthday. I thought I was as healthy as I could be, I played 15 hours of Sand Volleyball a week and don't smoke or drink. Of all the possible outcomes, mine are minor...I wasn't used to being in pain, it was an odd experience. I didn't complain much but eating was really a chore...

I couldn't really do anything with my left arm for a while and was very frustrated by my limited range of movement, however, it got better with time. I went to the doctor for my constant jaw pain and the doctor gave me Botox injections which helped a great deal.

Now that I am 15 months out from my ordeal I have a little reflecting to do. If I could have done things differently I would have worked out more, I would have seen a counselor much sooner, and I would have meditated more often...I am now able to function to a high degree and most people have no idea that I have had surgery.

I have a new purpose in life from my experience, I am committed to working with children in the Foster Care System. I workout daily and am getting more fit than I have in years, I am committed to leaving a mark in the lives of people of this earth, before I depart.

What I will always remember is that, at the depths of my pain and fear, during all of the times I would despair about my condition. I knew that this state wasn't permanent. I knew that this condition, like all others will pass and be replaced with a new one...Everything is impermanent and that is such a wonderful thing for me to remember...
