Stage 4. Both his Dr and mayo said avg life expectancy of 1 to 1.5 years. Having a hard time believing that. He still is having no symptoms. Feels great now that the kidney is removed. Works full time and very active. Praying the chemo helps slow the cancer and they are wrong about the time he has left.

Hi jR daughter. (XXX auto-correct!) looks like your dad will have a scar like mine. How long ago did he have surgery? I've also had chemo and radiation for unrelated Breast cancer, so I know what that's like too!

over 2 years agoVery glad that you're also working with the mayo. They're great. Yes, I think the fact that he and I are very active before --and during-- treatments makes a huge difference. Find out if they have a FitSteps program for cancer patients where you are. Check in with all the extra help available. For example, I got four months of free house cleaning through a program called Cleaning for a Reason. I live alone, and after surgery, that really helped. Kidney cancer is definitely one of the bad cancers. Unlike breast cancer, there just aren't many treatments. And kidney cancer is usually discovered by accident (typically a ct scan you're having for something else), unless it's already progressed so far that it's then obvious and hard to treat. That is just so unfair. If you haven't done so already, be sure to check in on the support boards for kidney cancer on the American Cancer Society website. I got tons of info there.
