Sorry to hear you are having a tough day. Perhaps you can find some good ideas from our latest blog post on dealing with cancer over the holidays.
Things of you. Happy Thanksgiving.
Celebration (Finished treatment): I had my mastectomy last week. Saw my oncologist today. He doesn't see the need for radiation, or chemo. Wants me to be on tomoxifen starting today, but feels everything is looking the way it should. Yeah!!!
Procedure or Surgery (Breast Reconstruction (Implant)): I had my right breast reduced and lifted at the same time as my left side mastectomy. Idid that because i wanted to have at least a small sample of the tissue in that breast sent to pathology, and i am happy to report it came back clean. Yeah!! I am also absolutely thrilled with my new right breast appearance. It went so much better than I expected. No pain in my right breast but that expander in my left breast is going to drive me insane, as is the drain! I have an appointmente with my plastic surgeon later today and my oncologist after that appointment. Then we will know what the next course of action will be. It may be chemo or radiation, or it may be nothing.
Procedure or Surgery (Mastectomy): The surgery was on 12/15...just a week ago. I had a post-op visit with my general surgeon yesterday and the pathology did indicate multi-focal cancer throughout my left breast, so I realize that I didn't have much of a choice about having a mastectomy.
This cancer XXX sure sucks doesn't it? I am having a little bit of "downer" day today, because we can't be with our families, and of course my diagnosis, upcoming surgery, and the unknown only add to it. But I will be thinking of you today and hoping that all of you folks have the best Thanksgiving Day possible, given your circumstances. Take good care.
