    jan_h shared an experience

Drug or Chemo Therapy (Chemotherapy): Inpatient chemotherapy for three days with cisplatin and etoposide. The side effects while in the hospital were minimal. I experienced nausea the first three days after release but it was controlled with medication. There has been a big impact to daily life, largely because I live 25-30 miles from the treatment center and do not have much of a support system. The American Cancer Society has been great, providing transportation to the train station via their Road to Recovery program.

The very good news is that the chemo is working. I can now breathe through both nostrils, although not perfectly. Before the chemo, I could not breathe through the right nostril at all and could only breathe through the left nostril sometimes. I also have fewer headaches and they are less severe. I still have no sense of smell and do not know if I will get it back.

Thanks for your welcome, Dave, and for the tips. Sorry for the delay in responding. I am just getting started, trying to figure things out, juggling this disease with work, etc. I'm sure you know the drill. :-)

Thanks, Greg. I appreciate your offer and will likely take you up on it at some point. It's hard to believe you've been through it three times,. You must be one tough guy. This is my first time w/ cancer and I haven't even started treatment yet, so I've got a lot to learn,
