Hi Nan, I was either Stage 1a or 2b at diagnosis depending on which of the docs doing surgery one listens to. I believe that the 2b was the more accurate staging. The surgery was done by my ob/gyn (his initial diagnosis was fibroids until he was actually in there) and the other was a Resident or Intern who was thinking of specializing in Gyn/Onc. His diagnosis was 2b. I referred myself to the local teaching hospital's Gyn/Onc department since the ob/gyn was convinced he had "gotten it all" and when I questioned him about further workup/treatment since it was malignant, he said "What's the matter, don't you trust me?" I was definitely NOT comfortable with him or that from then on and that's why I referred myself. It HAS been a long, strange trip :-) But my 'silver lining' is that I have met so many wonderful people: my Oncologist (who I've been with since October of 1991); nurses; and other 'Chemo Queens' - some who have passed and some are still here in the fight. I'll continue with treatment at this point. Who knows what comes next! I'm to start Adriamycin the day after Thanksgiving (IV infusion) and my fingers are crossed that this will hold the GCT monster at bay for a while. I have had IV Taxol and Carboplatin but nothing IP. That stabilized the disease for a while for me. I have learned that even among GCT survivors that response to treatment is as individual as the survivor. If you haven't been aware, there is a Google Group called GCT Warriors via the Granulosa Cell Tumour (not a misspelling, they're in Australia) Research Foundation. It's a very worthwhile group and the only one I've found specifically for GCT. There is SO much knowledge there and I highly recommend it. They held a conference in Boston 2 years ago that I was fortunate enough to get to - imagine: GCT survivors from around the world in ONE PLACE . . . it was fabulous :-)

Thanks, Carol-Charlie, for the good thoughts and prayers - I'm not giving up yet :-) I wish you continuing clear PET scans and many, many more cancer-free years! Sending you good vibes, prayers and good thoughts, too. Holding you in the Light . . .

Decision Point (Whether to keep going on with treatments . . .): Getting to the end of the list for chemo 'recipes' and options for treatment.
