It seems like the wound must be infected. If exploratory surgery is planned, I would want to know the risks to the patient, possible outcomes. Will the patient need a colostomy bag? Is it possible a bag would be installed during surgery, if it is the only option. How long surgery might take.

If you have concerns you talk to doctor and tell him your concerns openly.
If you have concerns about his heart and strength ask the doctor about testing the heart to make sure it is ok ekg ect type test.
Ask the doctor is here some other way to do what he wants or check?
What about doing a colonscopy go in and look around first maybe????
If your not happy with the doctors answer keep asking questions till you are. And you are ok with it.
