Procedure or Surgery (Surgery): Extremely painful; Son vowed not to have another surgery to remove regrowth. However, faced with the return of the tumor similar in size to the first tumor, elected to have second surgery. Surgery went well, but biopsy showed that while tumor remained stage II, it contained elements that made it more likely that future tumors could be Stage III or even a glioblastoma like his mother had. In other words, going forward, the prognosis is poor. Son is debating now as to whether he should start radiation and/or Chemo therapy in hopes of delaying the return of the next tumor. Very difficult decision because these treatments, especially radiation, are likely to result in the death of a greater number of normal brain cells around the tumor area than would result from no radiation treatments at all.

Oh No: Son had MRI because mother/wife died with a GBM. MRI revealed Grade II astrocytoma. Very fortunate he decided to check to see if she had passed the brain tumor gene on to my him.
