Celebration (Anniversary): I'm in year 4, just had my 3D mammo and no cancer. Looking forward turning 70 next year.

This is my 4th year on Arimidex. By my 5th year, I'll be 70 so hopefully my onc will agree with your onc and I won't have to continue either. Did you notice any changes after stopping?

I have been off arimidex since February...I have noted fewer issues with joint pain, especially in my hands and wrists. Definitely fewer hot flashes, which I continued to have for the entire 5 years I was on it. Other than those two things everything else seems the same.
I thought it would be easier to take off some weight but that has not been the case. I feel good and am moving better so that's a plus.
My oncologist at Dana Farber was pretty certain that I would not need to be on it for more than the recommended five years which took me to age 70 also.
Of course I wonder what will happen down the road now that I have stopped...but I am trying to focus on the here and now and not worry too much about the future. As she told me once, we have many more things to fight a recurrence than we used to have. That does give me some comfort. There are no guarantees that another 5 years would help...everything I have read says 5 years is the ideal and recommended standard of care. Remember when we were first diagnosed? I don't know about you, but I immediately thought I should put my affairs in order and here I am 6 years later enjoying my family, a new grandson who was born in those years to join my other four, my friends are very dear to me, my husband and I have travelled and have two cruises planned for later this year, one with our children and grandchildren, another with friends of ours. I do try to live this motto: Yesterday is History, Tommorow is a Mystery, Today is called the Present...it is a GIFT! Enjoy it!!
Keep in touch...you will make the right decision for you. Grace

It's been 3 years since my diagnoses. If you need help with getting information, then let me know.
