Procedure or Surgery (Breast Reconstruction (Implant)): The only problems I had was that the muscle that had been zapped with radiation did not want to stretch once the expanders had been put in. I also asked them to take my other breast at that time. For the most part though I was please with the end result of reconstruction.

Side Effects (Nausea, fatigue, low red count, skin irratation): I had minimal nausea with the first round of chemo but I would start feeling yucky on about the 3rd day and it would last about a week before I started feeling better but I was still able to work.
By the time I finished my second round I was extremely tired because of my low red count but never got nauseated.
I had no side effects from the Herceptin that I took.
I was burned really bad after radiation and had to wear tight fitting shirt underneath my clothing to keep skin from touching the radiated skin. The radiation also made me tired. I was able to work half days during radiation and would take naps in the afternoons after radiation.

Radiation (External radiation ): The treatment itself was painless. The effects to my skin and muscles was much more painful than I expected. I many ways I felt like it was worse than the chemo.

Procedure or Surgery (Mastectomy): The mastectomy was easier to handle emotionally than I thought. I had lots of people praying for me. I also looked at everything as a step in the process since I knew I was going to eventually have reconstructive surgery. And that having one breast was only temporary.

Drug or Chemo Therapy (Other): My initial chemo went better than I thought it would. I took my chemo on Thursdays and went back to work on Monday through both rounds of chemo. I had to take medicine for my white blood cell count with my first round and had to get platelets and medicine for my red blood cells with my second round.
