Johneen, I know how you feel but don't take it personally if you cannot find people to meet with you. There are some great articles on About.com about hte stigma of lung cancer and how it effects all of us. I am sick and tired of people using the term non smokers lung cancer..Do people say .. Non sexual AIDS?
I have an EGFR mutation and am a non smoker. I don't care how you or anyone got LC..we just darn well better get some funding to find a cure. We are the number one cancer killer of women end of story.
but it does effect how people think of it. At first I didn't want to tell people but now say it loud and very clear. When I think of the billions paid to states by the tobacco companies and that money has been used to fix pot holes instead of investment in Lung cancer research and the 20% cutts made to cancer research I get really angry..
If I can help you in anyway I am here. But know this.. There is uch going on we are on the cusp of big reakthroughs.

      All the best,

      Dear Johneen,,

hi, I'm Aliza, a BC patient and the site's unofficial resident Medical Librarian. I applaud what you're doing to start a support group as I'm starting one up for BC patients in NYC. Med Librarians generally offer referrals and suggestions, but I think since you live in Camden County, perhaps it would make sense to check out what the scene is in Philadelphia, so to speak. I don't know if you're seeking to create a group specifically geared toward Lung Cancer patients or Cancer pts in general, but I imagine that you'll find many more Cancer patients throughout Phila than in Canden Cty.

Try the ACS and then you might give Hahneman and Jefferson Hospitals a try. Best of luck!

If there's anything I can do to help you, please don't hesitate to let me know.

      Warm wishes,
      Aliza

Hi! I live in a suburb of Philadelphia. I really couldn't find a group for lung cancer, but there are lists available of where all groups are. Turns out that I decided to go to a group in Delaware. Some of the local groups meet during the day, and I'm usually not around. American Cancer (Philly[phone number redacted]) can give you a list of groups. It gave me a list of Delaware County. There is another website for lung cancer, Inspire.com, This is where the organization is located: Inspire · 66 Witherspoon Street · Suite 402 · Princeton, NJ 08540. If you have lung cancer, there are many questions & comments there. I am taking Tarceva, and they even have a group that handles it specifically. You're always welcome to include specific people as friends. I've been corresponding with a woman from NJ as a result of Inspire. Good luck! Nina
