I get mine done at UNC. I got morphine, and he played soft background music. There was some pain. At Duke, they do not give you anything for pain.

Celebration (Remission): I was notified after my scans in late November 2017 that I was in FULL REMISSION...tears of joy soon followed.

Procedure or Surgery (Bone marrow aspiration): My brother-in-law had this procedure done and he said it was horrible so I was pretty worked up for this procedure. However, my procedure was much different. My oncologist had me "drop my drawers" and had me lay down on my belly for the procedure. He numbed the area near the top rear edge of my iliac crest right at my beltline with lidocaine before he started...he said it would feel like a bee sting followed by some burning and that's exactly what it felt like. To be honest, the numbing was the worst part of the procedure. I felt some slight pressure during the rest of the procedure, but that was about it. A little bone soreness afterwards, but very, very minor. Long story short, I worked myself up about nothing!!
