Other Care (Complete body scan, chest x-ray, other radiologic tests): My entire body, other than my head, was scanned to see if cancer had spread to any other organs since it was in the lymph nodes.

Procedure or Surgery (Colostomy ): I had a colonoscopy in December 2011 after a routine check suggested by my family physician showed blood in my stool. A tumor was discovered in my sigmoid colon, but it was benign; I was supposed to have just a resection to remove that portion of my colon. I had no signs or symptoms of anything wrong; recurring pain in my pelvic region were what I had mistakenly thought were pains from ovulation, and the little bit of blood I had noticed in my stool was from what I thought were internal hemorrhoids that I have had for 20 years. When I woke from my surgery I learned that I had a mass the size of a softball and it was wrapped around my ovary and my ureter. My surgeon also removed 14 lymph nodes that looked suspicious. The biopsy confirmed that the mass was malignant and 7 of the 14 lymph nodes were also cancerous. Because it was so far down near the anal canal he also had to perform a colostomy
