Decision Point: So, it looks like the time frame that was given was way off. Today the doctors have suggested hospices and making her comfortable. What happen to the 8-12 months. She does not look sick, I am not sure how to feel? Sad, angry, numb, I am not ready to say good by.

That sounds like lymphedema, a side effect of many cancer treatments. She needs to report this to her oncologist because if it is lymphedema, she will need to start wearing a compression sleeve.

There are lymph nodes all over the body. It is actually called the lymphatic system. Think of it like your kitchen drain. There are lots of places in the piping for a clog to occur but it appears to you right at the juncture by the sink. The lymph both clears away garbage for the body and traps unwanted garbage. Sometimes discarding through tear ducts and sometimes via sweat and other routes also. At the same time the lymphatic system is a kitchen drain, it is also the dudes who appear in trucks to take away the refuse. Pile the trash up too high and the lymph (the refuse collector) either gets stuck in one place for a long while or passes your pile by completely, perhaps with intent to get back to the pile but the system (the trash collector) is busy. Your Mom does need to speak with her doc. There are other simple remedies which may help. There is a type of (light touch) lymph massage which helps to clear the system and there are poltices made of natural foods which can help declog/unswell the lymph. Let me know if you have interest and I will provide more information about the non pharmaceutical assists for your Mom to try.

Loss (they have given my mother "8-12 mo."): It all started about a year ago. When the family was informed via a conference call, that the strangest women I know had Cancer and that it is Lymphoma and that there are 2 kinds the non aggressive one that could come back. Or the aggressive one that could be treated and when gone not come back. Year had gone by and last Saturday my mom gathered us all again in a hotel room after a nice breakfast to break the news to us, that as much as she had endured this pass year and after all the trips to city of Hope, that there is no hope left, she had 8-12 mo. and she has made plans for everything. At this moment she is in the hospital because of the pain. If one were to see my mom, she looks normal. You could not tell, she is sick except for the pain she is in. I feel so helpless...
