Your doing good then Julie. Glad to hear it. Stop back here and look up the type of chemo you will have so you can see what/if any, side effects will be expected.

I went to meet with the Oncologist she is GREAT! Dr Natalie Dickson at St. Thomas! She explained lots of great things and as I remember them I will re edit this! LOL Anyway I will start the Chemotherapy (Cisplatin) on the 12th of November. It is a very aggressive type and I am expected to feel pretty crappy but I only have to do three treatments three weeks apart so it hopefully wont be too bad for a long period of time! I do not have to have a port put in just yet she said we would wait and see how well I do with the first treatment before we do that. If I end up having to come in for fluids then we would probably end up putting one in but for now I don't! My friend Caycee went with me today and she really liked the dr and felt like I did that she explained everything really well for us, so that made me feel better! She did tell me that the staging the other dr said was wrong he had it at three but she sayd its at stage 4 because of the size of the tumor and that it had a primary and a secondary. And now let the treatments begin so we can get me to a 100% cure! Pray away!

The doctor I am seeing says if it was himself he would not have the tumor removed, He is telling me that chemo and radiation will cure it! As I said earlier I meet the other drs soon so I will talk with them about it too! What do you think? I know with my moms tumor she had in her neck, they did the radical disecton and removed a bunch of lymphnodes. She did the radiation and so far all is well, I asked her what she thought after meeting and talking to the doctor and she agrees with him that if the surgery is not a must then why go thru with it!

Julie, I have always said that they are the ones that went to school for this and are supposed to be the experts at this, so if my Dr. says I need or don't need to do something, that's what I'm going to do. Now that doesn't meen that I don't ask lots of questions and make them educate me on why we are taking this route. I have them justify their decision to me. If I have a problem with it then, I will go further. You are probably just in a lower stage than would be required to do more surgery, etc.

I think it's good news to not have to go through it.

Today I went in for a post Op visit, he said he was surprised at how well I was getting along and looking better than he expected!! He said everything that he biopsied came back good and he would see me back in January for a check up. I will meet with the other doctors and see what their opinion is on treatment and we will go from there! He has scheduled for me to meet with the Oncologist on Oct. 31st to get things set up for Chemotherapy. And Nov. 5th to see the Radiologist for Radiation. Both Drs are right there at St. Thomas so thats helpful!

Glad to here someone thinks your doing good. Funny how they think we are doing better than we think we are. I had trouble sleeping, only an hour at a time, I would wake up on the hour, go spit out, take a swish of miracle mouthwash, pain meds and go down again.

It does slooooowwwwwly get better. Now, four years out from the same operation you just had, followed by the big daddy Radical Neck Disection, I am half normal. My wife says I was never normal though, so I don't know.

Let us know if anyone here can help with anything.
