My answer is only a result of my experience, for what its worth. My surgery for stage III was Feb. '10 with 2 mo. radiation mid '10. I was started on Lupron, Casadex and later Xygeva in '10. My PSAs were >.01 and stayed that way until Nov. '13 when my oncologist took me off all. PSA still down. Health seems good, exercising and enjoying life (with changes from ed and aging) Last PSA still>.01.
      Best to you going forward.

decrease in or disappearance of signs and symptoms of cancer. In partial remission, some, but not all, signs and symptoms of cancer have disappeared. In complete remission, all signs and symptoms of cancerhave disappeared, although cancerstill may be in the body.

It is the nature of Stage IV Prostate Cancer that it will never be gone. By definition Stage IV Prostate Cancer has metastasized to your bones or other parts of your body. Treatment with hormone therapy will delay the progress of the cancer.

The next step is at some point down the road your hormone therapy for Stage IV prostate cancer will stop being effective and your doctor will recommend chemotherapy. Chemotherapy will delay the progress of the cancer. Perhaps it will delay it long enough that you will reach an advanced old age or perhaps not. It depends on how aggressive your prostate cancer is and how well you respond to treatment.

If you weren't aware that your Stage IV prostate cancer will never be gone, then you should talk to your doctor about your case.

Symptom Management: I was aware that radiation carried side effects I didnt realize that they get worse over time. I am happy and blessed to be alive so I consider the side effects a fair trade off since it was treatment or die.
