Procedure or Surgery (Biopsy): After our 1st doctor appointment, they needed to do surgery to see what stage his cancer was in. They had already told us he was not a candidate for surgery to remove a lung. While in surgery, he took a turn for the worse and ended up in ICU for 2 or 3 days in a drug induced coma (I found out his cancer was a stage 3 but contained to 1 lung). I think this was the beginning of a very long road. I never left his side while he was in the hospital. He finally woke up and was not happy with me because he had tubes everywhere and couldn't talk. We had discussed he didn't want life saving (heroic measuers) taken. It was my call and I wasn't ready to let him go! I chose to keep him alive because after all, he WAS my Daddy!

Oh No (Diagnosed): I had just gotten home from work when my Daddy called me. I was tired from a long day and didn't want to talk. He was very persistant that day. I figured I'd call him after my nap. My mom (they divorced when I was very young) called and asked if I'd talked to him yet and I said no. I thought I'd better call him back and that was the day my world feel apart. He told me he had been diagnosed with Lung cancer about 6 weeks before and didn't want to tell me until he had an appointment with MD Anderson. I can remember feeling angry, sad and just pure disbelief. He said he was going to beat it for me. You see, I have no siblings and I was determined to go through this with my Daddy. I think apart of me is still in disbelief (even though he's no longer with me).
