Procedure or Surgery: I had a hysterectomy on 11-11-11. It was only supposed to be a removal through the vagina, but because the tumor was 60% through my uterus they opened me up and took samples of my lymph nodes (came back negative). I was in the hospital for 3 days (not including the initial surgery day since that took about 7 hours I did not get into my room until around 10pm). I didn't want to move the first day but they made me and I'm so glad because the best that I felt was when I was up and walking around. I walked just about every hour. It takes a little out of you but it really does help in the long run. I was not on any pain meds (other than when I was on the IV) and they removed me off of the IV halfway through the first day. Once I got home I was moving around and even went out to the store the day after I got home from the hospital. Key thing after having this surgery is drink a TON of water. You will get tired and the water helps. 10 days after surgery I had my staples removed. Due to being a "having more layers kind of girl" I had a pocket of fluid build up in between the layers that they had sewn back together, so the bottom 2 staples actually opened up as a hole. It began at 5-1/2 inches deep and about the circumference of a half dollar coin. 8 weeks later it is still here but is much smaller now and about to close. Fluid is constantly coming out of it so you will increase your water intake even more. In the beginning the gauze and padding had to be changed at least 2 if not 3 times a day, but after about the 6th week it went down to just changing it when you change the Iodoform once a day. I went back to work after 4 weeks, but began the first 2 weeks at half days due to being exhausted still. I took naps (I'm not a nap kind of girl) on a daily basis, sometimes multiple.

Drug or Chemo Therapy: Megestrol (Megace) turned me into a very moody, angry person who gained all 65 pounds that I had just lost. I felt like I was going through Menopause. Hot Flashes, sweats, severe mood swings.. it is definitely not something that I ever want to experience again.
