kacy asked a questionColorectal (Colon) Cancer

I had surgery for colon cancer last April. Now I have an incisional hernia. Has anyone had hernia repair using mesh?

Thank you for your responses. My hernia is getting a bit bigger every day. I have decided to go ahead and have surgery. Dec. 6th as an out patient. I feel this is a better option than waiting until I have an emergency situation pop up (pun intended). We are planning a month long trip to Europe in the late spring so I want to be healed by then.

Maybe and abdominal binder could help? I'd ask about one.

Side Effects (Other): The latest set back is an incisional hernia. I have heard horror stories of mesh repair and am so reluctant to agree to that surgery. Also, my new surgeon prefers open rather than laporscopic surgery which I understand has a much higher recurrence rate.

Other Care (Other): I am now having my blood drawn every 3 months for CEA levels. I will also have another colonoscopy in April 2013.

Drug or Chemo Therapy (Chemotherapy): After one chemo treatment was sent directly to ER with stroke like symptoms...dropped foot and slurred speech.
MRI negative for stroke. Allergy to chemo suspected.

Procedure or Surgery (Colon surgery (colectomy or hemicolectomy)): Radial margin considered open. Pre-op appointment with surgeon never addressed location of tumor ( transverse) or possible treatment to shrink tumor prior to surgery..
