Oh No (Tests show high chance of recurrence--should do chemo again to lower my risk)

Decision Point (should I have breast reconstruction? double mastectomy?): It was really helpful to see a therapist who helped me recognize how my thinking was effected by my fears. It was helpful to put fears aside and look at the choices more clearly. I am so thankful!

Drug or Chemo Therapy (Hormone therapy): Hot flashes managed with gabapentin. The gabapentin also helps the neuropathy I acquired from chemo.

Drug or Chemo Therapy (Depression medicine): I had some medicine that I could take when I needed it to help me control anxiety and to help me sleep at night.

Loss (Job): I was cut to half-time and forced to retire in a year. I was devastated. My professional identity and commitment has always been a big part of me.

Drug or Chemo Therapy (Chemotherapy): I was able to work while undergoing chemo. I did experience fatigue which I managed by pacing myself, eating well, and going for walks every day. My chemo was cut short because I was getting significant neuropathy in my hands and feet.

I lost my hair, it came back curly! A challenge was that I live in a small town in a remote, rural area--I had to travel 4-5 hours to get my treatment at City of Hope. It was expensive and travel didn't make things easy, but it was worth it for the excellent care I received at COH.
