I was already months after my treatments ended, when suddenly I started getting panic attacks out of the blue. Just as you say you were always upbeat, in all of my life,i was always the calm and collected one, who shrugged off every problem with a this will get better attitude, so it really came as a shock to me when this started. When I told my oncologist, he prescribed an anti-anxiety drug and suggested seeing a therapist. Slowly, the panic attacks stopped. I do believe that it was a combination of the drug and some very constructive sessions with the therapist who gave me some tools to help me deal. Help can come, even for us "upbeat" types. If you don't feel you are making any progress, I would start looking for a new therapist or psychiatrist. Don't give up, there are ways to get through the clouds.
