Usually cant be in public for fear of getting sick from someone, low blood counts. My dad used to love to go to the lake and look, sit and just not do much. something like that would do a lot for him now. Hope you can get him out.

Thanks for your responses. The doctor doesn't want him out in places like grocery stores yes due to blood counts but he has taken that to not go anywhere public. I will try your suggestions of rides, picnics and sitting at the lake. All, great ideas.

      Thanks!

consider getting some of that hand foam or gel. the number one thing he can do to prevent getting sick is good hand hygiene! when my counts went to XXX, i still worked and did everything, but i had everyone foam in to my office... and for my classes, i asked everyone to either foam in or go wash hands. everyone was super nice about this. also, i asked people to simple not come if they were ill. again, people were super nice about this.

the nurses in the infusion room gave me a bottle of hand foam... that made it easy because the kids think that stuff is cool. so, they would eagerly line up to foam in to our house... and the adults think that stuff is cool too. they also cheerfully held out their hands for the foam. nice thing about that foam is that it doesn't have a heavy perfume... that was a bonus because one of my students is chemically sensitive and cannot be around the gels... ah - the drama of hand hygiene around an immune compromised cancer patient!

sounds like the doc doesn't want him places where people are touching things with dirty hands... maybe if you can get your dad to think about it in terms of hand hygiene, he might come around a little?

good luck! i hope you can get him out for a walk / drive or something... sunshine is a glorious wonderful thing... fresh air rules... and those things do not make you sick!

kerstin - good luck! and hugs!
