I've been through it and have it. My lawyer took a % of my payout that was reasonable.
SSDI didn't take my claim seriously until I had been rejected and was going to hearing. They like to reject everything except the most blatant stuff.
The lawyer helped s lot. I recommend getting one. Also I was told that when I hit stage 4 status with my cancer they would quit fighting me.
This turned out to be true When I was a IV during my periodic reinvestigation. They didn't mess with me at all at that point, just reapproved my claim.

I'd like to hear more. I am presently employed. Probably shouldn't have went back to work, but I did. Need the insurance. However I can't swallow, am on a permanent PEG tube. I can barely talk & most people can't understand me. And I have a busted hip. If for some reason I lose this job, I will have to go on something. No on is ever going to hire me again. And I am considering applying for disability in the near future. I don't know how much time I may have left. I am currently NED, but you know how that goes. Anytime. And UI'd rather be enoying my life than working. My mom never got the chance to retire. I don't want to be like that.

@Dkatsmeow I'd already be calling a disability lawyer. It takes awhile to get through the process but it's worth it.

I do, but it can be an overwhelming undertaking to get one started once you're in the middle of your treatments, so get someone to help you put one together if you can. My mother helped me put one together and it is more useful than I could have ever imagined and keeps us both in the know in real time.

I don't. I am not nearly that organized. Everything is online on my cancer center's website so i guess i don't feel a real need for a notebook.

My vote is to start keeping a notebook today - you don't have the energy to try to reconstruct it from the beginning but start now! Mid treatment or not. I carried mine with me (or my spouse did) and took notes every single time. "Doc S said XYZ" or felt faint and had to sit for half an hour or cold weather made me need extra warm clothes....a year or two later I take it with me and reference something said like, "Dr. S said to expect _____ but I have_____. And sometimes some sections 6 years later are almost funny to read!
