Power of Attorney, Living Will stating specific wishes. Don't forget the "three wishes." Had to do with hydration, feeding tube, and pain med. Good luck.

Carm, the idea of putting the information in the freezer is an excellent one. Good idea for insurance papers too.

Aliza, I know that Karen Quinlan was years ago, but while the carp was hitting the fan about her, my mom wound up in the same hospital, with the same emts, drs & priest as KAQ did. This was also the time before all those Health Care Proxies & such. Man, we had very few options because anyone who died while on life support was automatically autopsied & records reviewed. I still have scars.

Thanks! I remember now why I was curious about the Jell-O coloring......when I had my colonoscopy, they said no red or orange Jell-O or juices. I have started a section in my cancer notebook that has all the tests I have taken & all the pre-testing requirements, as well as what the test consists of & any side effects or post-test restrictions.

One day, after one of my glow in the dark tests, I'm going to go to the airport to see if I set off any alarms!

      Laureen,
Okay first let me say this: scans are always read the same day they are done. They may tell you that they take 3 days but what they might be referring to is the hard copy. All wet reads are done the same day they are taken. You can't let films lie around for 3 days. They don't throw those plates away, they are reused daily so a wet read has to be done. The radiologist dictates the results into a microphone and then someone types that microphone into a paper report. The plates are transcended into discs then erased for re-use. So although they may tell you 3 days, it's probably because they want you to hear any news from the doc but you have the right to get results quicker. The nodules in your lung could be scar tissue so until your doc says definitively, you will have to await the determination. It is good to have a sense of humor and a disposition of level handedness. As a nurse I can say that I look for patients like you who have an open mind and who doesn't let their thoughts paint them into a corner. Adriamycin IS Doxil but it is a form of Doxil without the lipid layer. There is Doxil Liposomal which is a molecule of the drug encased in a lipid envelope so as it goes thru your system, it doesn't affect other cells so you normally won't lose hair or have the normal side effects of other chemotherapies. Affirmation is Doxil without the envelope so it is usually every 3 weeks instead of 4. Both have the side effect of hand and foot syndrome which causes the peeling. Thrush can be treated very effectively with "Miles Solution." Avastin (a great drug), is not a chemo, it is a physiotherapy. It targets VEGF which is an enzyme that signals the need from the tumor that it needs a blood supply. It is an anti angiogenesis that stops the production of that blood vessel which then starves the tumor. It does not have chemo side effects because it does not target cells, it is an antibody that connects to an antigen to block a signal. It's chemical name is Bevicizumab (if I spelled it correctly). Targeted therapies end in letters that tell you what they do (ab=antibody). Sounds like a great meal, I have been on Weight Watchers for a year and I sure do miss a great burger! In close, I hope the change is more effective. effective also hope your doc did an ejection fraction on your heart lately. This is protocol for post Doxil Liposomal because it can cause cardiotoxicity. Take care my dear, Carm RN.

Stupid auto correct... Above Affirmation should be Adriamycin. Microphone should be dictation. Finally level handedness should be level headedness. I HATE AUTO CORRECT!!!
