Hi, AJ,
I'm from Tucson, too and finished chemotherapy for ovarian cancer in October, 2012 at Arizona Oncology near TMC. So far, I'm doing well. I'd like to hear from you, whatever, you would like to share.

Decision Point (Had to decide about genetic testing and what to do with the results.): I decided to have the genetic testing and to have a prophylactic mastectomy after learning that I have the BRCA 2 mutation. I also told family members about the test results to prevent cancer in others in my family.

Loss (Body part/function): Loss of ovaries wasn't very difficult because they were inside, but loss of breasts in a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy due to BRCA2 mutation has been much more of a challenge. Yet, it is doable, and it helps me sleep well at night with less worry.

Side Effects (Allergic reaction): As soon as the doxil entered my vein, I had a strong allergic reaction, but I was able to tolerate the drug with increased steroids given prior to the drug.

Celebration (Finished treatment): Cancer marker stayed in the normal range after surgery for debulking and throughout treatment but went up slightly a few times, then, dropped after treatment was discontinued. We continue to celebrate and enjoyed the one year anniversary since the diagnosis.
