Drug or Chemo Therapy (Chemotherapy): My wife just started chemo today. It was IV preceded by some anti-nausea meds, then a drug for the chemo. I can't remember the name off the top of my head as this was a really long day. we have to go back tomorrow, because she needs a blood transfusion, her hemoglobin count is low, and so is her energy. according to the nurses her energy will perk up in a couple of days after that.
    The journey begins....

2nd liver biopsy performed yesterday. They say that they have good material on this one! So ...maybe we will know more before the 19th, her scheduled start of chemo.

Procedure or Surgery (@nd Liver biopsy): This was my wife's second liver biopsy in 3 weeks. I was there for both. This is something to behold, what an experience as the patient has to lie awake, yet somewhat sedated. Her team at both was awesome, and the procedure went about as smoothly as could likely be expected. I have a good deal of respect for anyone who has undergone this procedure. They seem to think they have good material, so we are awaiting results.

Joe, the issue with CUP is that before they can begin treatment they need to know what kind of cancer it is, thus they are trying to figure out where it started. The scans look for all of the possible starting locations and any wher else that is might have gone. I see tht there was a biopsy of her liver. That should have given them a good idea of what knid of cancer it is. Based on what they are doing I am guessing that the cancer is not liver cancer and they are trying to find out if it is any where else to determine how they start treatment. A one month wait to start treatmebnt with CUP is not too unusual as it can take a while to do all of the scans to prove it is or is not anywhere else. I would guess that they will start with chemo soon. Good Luck.

My first test (routine mammogram) was in Oct. My first treatment was in Dec. So about 6-7 weeks.

Thank you all for your replies, I truly appreciate them. Yes, 2 biopsies were performed in 2-3 weeks because the first did not have good cells. The second it seems was a better specimen.
CAS1, it takes a couple days for results at our facility.
Either way her physician wants to begin chemo on the 19th, with or without a primary known.
It has been just over a month since we first found out.
By the way, great site, and writing has always helped me, either in my quest for my degree, or life in general so this is a great medium.
Kudos, thanks to all. I will be happy to network, converse, correspond with anyone.
