A radiation simulation is a dry run for the radiology techs to establish the machine settings for radiation treatments. No actual radiation is used during the simulation but otherwise it is very similar to the actual radiation treatments (although the one time simulation will probably take longer than the actual treatments).

They do use radiation during the simulation. You are placed in a Cat Scan for the procedure where they take many images which are then used to make your radiation plan. I just had the one tumor in my rectum and it took about 90 minutes to gather everything up that they needed. They will also create a mold to place you during your treatment. I had one for my wait and legs. Not sure where they are going to zap you, but they also make molds of heads, etc. Good luck on your journey and only hoping the best for you.
