I want to add that Cancer Treatment Centers will arrange for you and a caregiver to come to one of their facilities (depending on what insurance you have depends on what center you visit) and talk to their doctors/specialists. It was my answer to my prayers. Whatever your decision, you are right to put it in God's hands and I am sure you will receive the answer you seek.

I went to Cancer Treatment Center of America (in Chicago). I had a harder time with the chemo than the radiation. The radiation did not "wipe me out" like chemo did. On the days I had chemo I was completely exhausted and slept my whole day away. The unpleasant side of radiation was of course the area they are radiating is a sensitive area but it was tolerable with pain medication and supplements. I can not tell you how much I relied on supplements and I am not usually one to even take a vitamin (before cancer). I lost my hair late, once I came home, but it is coming back slowly so that I don't even mind anymore. I think if I could rate the worst part, it would be the "accidents" you have. Not being able to "hold" or feel the "urgency" of going to the bathroom. I learned to wear the adult diaper (and was glad of to have them actually). But even the accidents go away. I understand your concerns, especially having children. During my treatment I had a grandson born and I wondered if I would live to see him grow up. By the grace of God and lots of prayers, I know that it is possible and I will. You and I both are fortunate we caught the cancer in time. God Bless You.

Hi rap42 and welcome. I had the same diagnosis as you, squamous cell carcinoma, anal cancer, diagnosed last August and I started treatment in September. I live outside Atlanta and found that the number of doctor appointments I needed were scattered all around the city. I felt that I needed a better solution and found the "team approach" at a facility in another state. Everyone was under one roof (nutritionist, oncologist, radiation and chemo doctors, lab, etc). I followed their expert advice and had the combo of chemo/radiation for 8 weeks. Yes, it was difficult at times for me but we are fighting a very difficult enemy. I am happy to say today I am cancer free, and feeling great. I have some of my old energy level back on most days and started back in January to eat healthier and live healthier. I want to add that before that diagnosis, I had had two rounds of skin cancer (basil cell) on my face. And I just read recently the link of this type of skin cancer to other cancers. One bit of advice I would offer you is to get a second opinion if you are unsure of what path you want to take regarding treatment. Good luck to you. I will be following your path and my prayers are with you.

Thank you so much for letting me know your story. I need to hear that there is hope to all this. I have very young children and the thought of not being there for them is heart breaking. I am getting a second opinion mostly likely from MD Anderson in Houston. Can I ask you where you went for treatment? Everything I have read so far says the radiation is the worst. The important thing is that I beat this with the Grace of God. I have full intention. The frightening part with it all being so new is just not knowing what the right path to take is and how it will all end up. I know I have to put my faith in God. Thank you again it is comforting to hear someones elses story. I am very happy to hear you are cancer free.
