Hi BrendaBurk, welcome to WhatNext. You are newly diagnosed, so you are probably fearful, confused , depressed and lost. Your world suddenly changed. This is how I felt five years ago when I was diagnose$ with ovarian cancer. I too came to WhatNext seeking answers . The best piece of advice I can give you is to find a good gynecologist onchologist to head your medical care. These are the doctors who have more education and experience with treating ovarian cancers than your local, gynecologist. I traveled more than 2 hours away for my treatments, this is how important the right doctor is. I know you have MD Anderson in Texas , if that is not possible then perhaps a good teaching hospital in Dallas. Look up the ratings of hospitals in your state. Do not shortchange yourself with your medical care.

Additionally you need a good support system in place with family ,friends and other survivors. WhatNext is a great place for that support. The site is a community of caregivers and survivors ready to answer your questions. Look the site over. We have helpful information, resources, blogs and videos .You can also converse with other survivors on their walls. We are all here for you and we are all stronger together. Wishing you better days and here to talk anytime.

Hi Hmm. I am very sorry your family/friend has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. There is a group on Facebook called Tealmen of OC that may be of help if your a male family/friend. WhatNext is a community of caregivers and survivors who are here to provide information , advice and support. The site offers a variety of information , blogs and videos. Look the site over, ask questions using the question tab for a community response or/and talk to individual survivors on their walls.

I came to WhatNext five years ago after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer . This site and the other survivors here gave me the additional life line I needed . Two pieces of advice I can give you that helped me : make sure your family/ friend has a gynecologist oncologist to head her medical care ( they have the additional education and experience needed to treat this disease) , and try to take things “ one day at a time.” Wishing you and your family/ friend better days ahead , and here to talk anytime on my wall.
