Hello my friend. I was diagnosed several years ago with Base of Tongue cancer. I'll be glad to offer you any information as to my treatments, experience, etc. Just give me a shout. And it's ok to be worried or even a little scared.

Side Effects: Loss of swallowing, extreme tiredness, dry mouth. Afterwards I have had dental problems, nothing severe only have to go for cleanings more often and my dentist checks for even the smallest of problems. he also does a good oral check.

Drug or Chemo Therapy: My chemo was an arterial type. I had to be hospitalized for three days for each treatment. I would go in on Wednesday, they would start IV's. On Thursday morning they would insert tubes in arteries from the groin area, push them through to my throat area and apply the chemo directly to that area. I would feel a burning sensation. After the chemo treatment was cone, IV's were continued til late Friday afternoon and I would be released. I had four of these treatments. Whew! They were not fun!! Had to have feeding tube put in, just a gravity feed type. Also had 30 radiation treatments to go along with that.
