Are you a smoker? Smoking causes considerable delays and problems with wound healing.

One of my incisions wasn't healing well, and started to get an infection. They took out my expander, sewed me up again, and it healed perfectly.

      MAMADUKES,
Thank you for sharing your experience. I hope all is well.

Your question reminded me of an experience page we have on the site about getting a mastectomy.

Pain with removal of jp drains

      Good morning MD!
Did you already have them out and they hurt? Or are you worried that removal will hurt? When I had mine removed, it sucked for about five to ten seconds.... And then OKAY! I was surprised by the size of the holes left behind.... But those healed up nicely. And that night, I was able to sleep on my side with ease!
If you've had them out and you're having a lot of pain - call!
      Good luck!

Like lee said....5 to 10 seconds coming out and it was more like a burning than actual pain. Mine have been out for 2 1/2 weeks now. Since they came out I have some pains now and then where I would imagine that the tubing was inside of me. I've just thought of this as healing pains. But I do see the doc on Thursday and will be sure. I am also having issues with the hole left cuz the scab keeps coming off every time that I shower....either by the towel or a little later from rubbing on my shirt. It doesn't seem infected, just worries me a bit. I would keep a bandaid on it except I have been having issues with them also. The skin in that area is has been overly dry and sensitive and the last few bandaids I used have torn skin off with them so I am just not using them.

Have not had them out yet. maybe next week. still draining alot.
Thanks for the answers. Exactly what I was looking for. I was excited to realize that I will probably be able to sleep on my side then too. I guess I can survive 5-10 seconds of discomfort after all of the pains of this past week! Will make sure I have a pain med in me thought. Just the thought of the tubing being pulled out of my body while I am aware is somewhat daunting. The first week post-op has been challenging. Just starting to back off the pain meds some.
