We have a couple of articles on our blog, click on the blog link at the top of the page, that talk about cleaning services and other resources for cancer patients. Take a look and you will find those articles a few pages deep in our blog.

"Cleaning for a Reason" offers 4 free house cleaning services to people in treatment/chemo, up to 2 hours and they do not usually clean windows. They don't cover every city and there is usually a long waiting list, it took me 2 years to get their help. Good luck!

I would encourage you to organize your kids with chores every day, or they would have consequences, such as grounding or no allowance, etc. Even young children can do chores and clean up after themselves. You shouldn't feel guilty requiring that---it will build character. I cleaned house growing up, and my mother wasn't even a caregiver!

It was my husband..3 years ago, Sept. 20th. I picked him up from his colonoscopy and had a smile on my face. I said, everything all set...the nurse said.."he'll talk to you". We got in the car..I was already numb. He said the doctor had seen something, and needed more tests. My husband said "Doc, tell me the truth,...is it cancer." and the doc said that he couldn't guarantee it, but pretty sure. The hospital is 1 mile away. The ride home was the longest ride of my life. My husband went into the house. I sat in the car for about 15 minutes and cried...then went in like a storm trooper and said "call Dr. McCarthy...and lets get going on this thing..."

I am in a similar boat, I have insurance, but it sucks, only pays about half, with a 5k deductable, won't cover any dental even though what I need is a result of cancer and subsequent treatments. I am dealing with a group called The Patient Advocate Foundation. It's hard to get through to them, but they are a group that has resources to several places that help with lot's of different Items. I don't know if they are going to be able to help me or not. But worth a try, they were referred to me by the American Cancer Society. A call to the800 number at ACS will get you started on possible sources. You will have to google the Patient advocate foundation for their number, numbeers cant be listed here. Good luck to you!

Most managed care companies offer case management services, so you may want to call Health Safety Net, and ask about this. Nurse Case managers can be very helpful in answering medical questions, and some companies have social care managers who may be able to provide you with some financial resources. You may also want to speak with a social worker at the hospital in which your husband receives treatment - I utilized the social worker at MGH who has been very helpful.
I believe that Health Safety Net is a state insurance. If it is. please know that Massachusetts has a few managed care companies, and that you can choose which one suits you best. You may want to do some on-line research about Health Safety Net as well as the other state insurance companies, and if you would like to change companies, ask to do so. It's your right to do so. Good Luck!!!
