Procedure or Surgery (Surgery): My husband's doctor at Duke decided to remove his spleen because it was very enlarged and they wanted to biopsy it to determine exactly what type of cancer he had. He had his spleen removed in April 2010. When, they did the biopsy, they found out the he has chronic lymphocitc leukemia. He has been in the watch and wait stage since then. His blood counts go up and down and he struggles with fatigue and getting sick very easily.

Oh No (Diagnosed): In September 2009, my husband had a grand mal seizure that left in Neuro ICU for 7 days and half of that time he was in a medically induced coma. After he left the hospital, we were told that he need to see a hematologist because his blood counts weren't right. The hematologist did blood work and other tests and couldn't find anything. So, he finally did a spinal becasue he didn't know what else to do. The results came back that my husband had some type of lymphoma. We were floored. The hematologist referred us to a wonderful doctor at Duke.
