Thanks, Greg. I'll clarify my question. I was diagnosed very recently with Stage 3C ovarian cancer, after about 4 medical guesses as to what else it might be, each worse than the previous one. The ascites was my 1st clue that there was something terribly wrong. They have drained it twice so far, 5 liters then another 3 of reddish fluid. After each paracentesis, I felt much better, but it doesn't last long. The docs don't like doing this, nor will they operate due to several pre-existing conditions that I have. I have not even started chemo yet, and my quality of life is already down around 0. Absolutely no energy at all. My question was "Is there any treatment than can draw down the fluid naturally?" I am already taking diuretics. Also, "Is there any safe remedy that can restore at least a little bit of energy?" Thanks so much for any help.

Mariel, thanks for updating, I know it takes a few days of poking around on the site to get used to it. But here's a tip for you, when you post a question, if you will look at the top of the box there are two tabs, one says "update" and the other says "ask network", click the ask net work tab, and everyone sees the question in the questions page and you'll get lots of answers.

Repost this in the questions tab at the top of the page, this is exactly how to post a question.

      Thanks for posting.

Hi Mariel, were you needing to know what this treatment is, or do you need to talk to someone who has had it done?

Let us know, lots of great people here with a ton of experience. A little more detail on what you need to know will get you lots of answers.

Thanks for posting, and let us know what you need.

Here is a website on ascites: http://howshealth.com/ascites/ . It recommends a low-salt diet. It also states that herbal diuretics like dandelion, or Taraxacum officinale, can help in eliminating excess fluids and also provide potassium which balances the presence or intake of excess sodium. Foods rich in potassium include mackerel, cantaloupe, and low-fat yogurt and baked potatoes.

I drink hot dandelion tea sometimes because its supposed to be good for your liver and gall bladder. It doesn't taste that great so I combine it with peppermint tea.
