I was semi awake during mine but actually didn't feel pain and enjoyed watching it on the screen. BUT then again I'm a crazy person. The worse part is the Prep....just get a good Nutrition Book and read when you're on the toilet getting a good cleaning out. B

With the speed that you're developing polyps and your family history- you should continue with the colonoscopies. I might consider a different doctor, if possible.

The Air Force did them with me awake. I won't have another civilian one, because they did put me to sleep., and I'm like Barry-I enjoy watching them. Most of all I listen to the staff talk to each other. They say a lot of things that aren't put on the report. Also, I can answer questions. After I had my civilian colonoscopy, my PCP said- Gee, they even put pics in the chart- never say that done. I looked and saw on the edge KAFB, 1993. I gave the civilian doctors copies of my records including pics.

    Question: Bad, bad news!!!!

    Mary57 shared an experience

Other Care (CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine)): Doing Natural Therapy and changing my diet in many ways, doing my own research. Regular colonoscopy has kept me cancer-free, when they see a cancerous polyp, it is removed! Last time I had the procedure, they wanted to do a endoscopy at the same time. The meds they give you so you are asleep while they do the procedure didn't work this time, I cried all the way through it! The only positive I got being awake was I was able to see it done on the screen, and see the polyp and how it was removed! I'm not sure I will go through that again, unless I'm asleep! I have a very low tolerance to pain and take OXY 80mgs/twice a day, but am thinking of weaning off it in the new year, due to constipation. I can only eat very small meals, which doesn't help with my nutrition. Sometime I forget my Lunch as I don't get the signal that I'm hungry! I also have type 2 Diabetes which thankfully has been in control this past 12 months.
