Celebration (Finished treatment): After the WLE I waited for the next pathology report which came back saying margins were clear and no melanoma left. Meant I was clear of cancer. Next week i go back to work and hopefully won't have any more melanoma tumors showing its ugly head on my body.

Procedure or Surgery (Wide excision surgery): Wasn't sure what to expect as others who had a WLE had differing recovery and surgery experiences. I was fully sedated and it took 90 mins. Had 60 stitches which was more than I thought as the mole wasn't that big. Went home on crutches and told to keep my leg raised above my heart for a week. I had decided to have the surgery while on my approved 2 week vacation but didn't realize it would take me 5 weeks off work. I am currently starting the 5th week of recovery and just now am walking fully on the foot without pain. My incision has half the stitches absorbed and half not. It looks like an elongated "S".

Oh No (Diagnosed): Had a large mole on back that started itching. My husband has had 30+ non-melanoma skin cancers taken off (Mohs Surgery) and I had never been to a dermatologist or had a skin check so told him it was probably time to have one. I did go to have the itchy mole checked. Found out it was of no concern but dermatologist found a mole on my outer right calf that she did not like so took it off for biopsy. Got a call a few weeks later while working to come in and speak to the doctor about the results. I asked to wait till next day off and they kept pressuring me to come in that day. I did go and was told it came back as melanoma in situ and the margins were not clear so would need a WLE. Referred to oncology surgeon specializing in melanoma
