What does biochemotherapy do for Stage 4 Melanoma patients?

In clinical trials from about 112-15 years ago, it showed a reduced mortality rate of 10% over useing chemotherapy alone. It includes chemotherapy but also include drugs like interferon that target the immune system.

This is the treatment I had.... 5 rounds of bio chemotherapy. It went like this: on a 22 day cycle: day 1 admission to the hosptial and hooked up to IVs. An IL-2 drip begins....then chemotherapy...a drip, an IV push, and pills. Once a day I would get an interferon shot. 4 days of the chemo drugs, 5 days of the immunotherapy drugs. On day 5 I would check out of the hospital and check into a hotel. Day 6 I went to the Angeles Clinic to see my doctor and have hydration pumped in via IV. At this time I received a shot of something to promote my blood to rejuvenate. I would go home and have a home nurse visit for 3 days, taking blood samples, checking my blood pressure and providing hydration. This is a very brutal treatment and luckily my cancer did not like it and I responded positively! Please message me or email me with any more questions. i think the choice of drugs for the treatment varies, I was on interferon, IL-2, cisplatine, vistpline, and tembadore ( I am sure the speliings are off!) TAKE CARE!!

Has anyone used DMSO to treat skin cancer? How do you apply it?

    • nancyjac's Avatar
      nancyjac

I certainly hope not. DMSO is a toxic solvent. Early clinical trials with DMSO were stopped because of questions about its safety. The most commonly reported side effects include headaches and burning and itching on contact with the skin. Strong allergic reactions have been reported. In high concentrations, DMSO can be fatal to humans. Industrial-grade DMSO is sometimes contaminated with other substances. DMSO can cause contaminants, toxins, and medicines to be absorbed through the skin, which may cause unexpected effects. DMSO is thought to increase the effects of blood thinners, steroids, heart medicines, sedatives, and other drugs. In Australia it is listed as a schedule 4 poison, and a company has been prosecuted for adding it to products as a preservative.[

Has anyone had experience with Ipilimumab (Yervoy)?

Yes. I had Ipi about 4 years ago. I didn't notice any improvement at the time, but it was one of the most tolerable treatments I've had thru my 7 years of fighting melonoma. My side affects were very minor.
