Well, am in process of finding better insurance and a doctor that is anything unlike the one I have been seeing. My biopsy results came in, they call me and I rush to get there before 11 am. The first words out of the receptionist's and the doctor's mouths are about how terrible the insurance I had was and how the XXX was I going to pay them. This went on for a full 5 minutes or so. I asked what the biopsy results were twice before he finally stopped ranting.

Then he tries to rush me into treatment and at same time asking me how I was going to pay for it all. I said I needed to talk to my husband and family and find someone to take care of my animals. That set him off on another rant.........he literally told me to load them in my car, drive 50 miles and dump them............. I'm sorry but almost all of my animals were dumped in the first place and found their way to us. We have nursed them back to health in some cases and if I didn't have them here to love.....I would have went crazy long ago. My husband is a truckdriver so I am alone 99% of the time; these animals are all I have pretty much.

And people wonder why I prefer beign around animals over to other people........this doctor is one reason why.

Hey Merrilda, thanks for sharing your experience. It's surprising that your oncologist would act this way.. they all know that cancer care is expensive, but there are organizations out there that can help cover some or all of the costs. I would give the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society a call. You can find them online at LLS dot org. They have acopay assistance program, and they have been wonderful! They have helped me with my prescription and treatment copays since I have signed up.

I'm still working on getting my hospital bills under control. The Lymphoma Research Foundation offers a grant program I found out about.. and I contacted them and they have sent me some materials to apply. Their website is at Lymphoma dot org.

You are not the first, and sadly not the last to find out that their insurance stinks upon cancer diagnosis. These groups can help you get the financial end of it worked out so you can focus on getting better, spend more time with your animals. I think they may also have some recommendations for a better oncologist too :)

Is it normal for an oncologist to tell you that if i do not hear from him/his office in a week to then call?

One of the reasons I felt he was not interested in my case is that when he would ask a question, he would cut me off or not let me answer. I was barely able to get out 1-3 words each time. I will be calling today since it has been a week and I have heard nothing. It doesn't help that the very few reports/reviews of this oncologist are not very good.

Be your own advocate and tell them what you want. If they can't or won't work with you, find another doctor. I had to and the second doctor has been MUCH better.

I now live in a place that does not have good specialists. I ended up flying myself to the nearest place for diagnosis. If you don't trust your oncologist to listen to your concerns you MUST look for someone who will listen to you concerns! Its your life in their hands, you have to be able to trust that the doctor is someone who can be relied on completely. In regards to having to call back I have learned the hard way the the polite squeaky wheel (especially if you keep track of your own needs) GETS WHAT SHE NEEDS.
I have also learned to keep copies of test results, records older than 10 years do not have to be saved.
