Decision Point: Surgery, Radiation, or other treatment options? Concerned most about incontinence and impotency side effects.

I had "robotic" surgery (daVinci machine) at the end of October '11. I am 99% continent daytime, and 80+% continent nighttime. Still urinating more often than before - every 2.5-3 hours - that's apparently because my prostate was between 2X and 3X normal mass, and my bladder is retraining itself. Haven't yet had a spontaneous erection, but I _have_ had XXX.

      So it'll get there.

That having been said, talk to your urologist wrt treatment options. I had a large mass - pretty much the entire organ - BUT it was well encapsulated. Surgery was my best bet.

Chemo is not a good first choice IF you haven't had metastases. Neither is radiation. Again - talk it over with your doc. Bring your wife along. ask questions and if you don't understand the answer, say so.

      Keep bugging until you understand.

I noticed you have not posted in a while. I hope that things are going well for you. I am of similar age and experience with prostate cancer. Would welcome chatting and talking through any of this. Feel free to read my story, but chatting about it might be more helpful. Darrell

      You are young - you've got a good chance of 100% recovery. I'm 62.
